CHAMP Performance

Is CHAMP slow or is it my connection?

We frequently receive feedback from providers that CHAMP is slow. However, our testing consistently shows that CHAMP is not slow. The average time to open a client data file, which includes all their data for the past 6 years, takes about 6 seconds.  The first time the client file is opened it takes around 10 seconds.  All client data can be worked with while the file is open with no performance issues because all data is local while the client data is opened by the user.

CHAMP startup takes about 2-4 seconds to the login box and about 10-12 seconds after that to log in completely.  Client list results take 1-2 seconds on average to return results.

These results were achieved using a connection with the following speed.

When generating CHAMP reports, some take a longer period of time while others come back quickly. The reports are dependent on how much data needs to be compiled.

If this is not your experience, you may want to test the speed of your internet connection at your office.

What do the results mean?

The PING, DOWNLOAD and UPLOAD are indicators of your internet connection performance. For the CHAMP application the PING and the DOWNLOAD are the most important to the application performance.

PING.  The lower the ping number, the faster your connection makes a round trip to the test destination at speedtest.net.

DOWNLOAD. The higher the number, the faster larger amounts of data can be download from the test site.  The national average connection speed for home cable internet is 100Mps. The average corporate internet connection nationwide is 18.75Mbps

20 Mbps or more

CHAMP will be performing at its fastest

10 Mbps – 20 Mbps

CHAMP should perform well most of the time. Other programs that use large amounts of bandwidth could affect performance for a short period.

Less than 10 Mbps

CHAMP performance might be affected by other programs on your computer that are using the internet at the same time. Applications using higher bandwidth could affect performance for example; streaming radio, webcasts, downloads, movies etc.

Less than 5 Mbps

CHAMP performance will be affected slightly even with no other programs or bandwidth being consumed.

Less than 1 Mbps

CHAMP would slow down and there will be noticeable performance problems.

UPLOAD. The upload speed has the least impact on CHAMP performance, but a 10 Mbps upload is generally considered a fast upload speed. (An HD video call through Skype, for instance, requires just a 1.2 Mbps upload speed).

Remember, the average corporate download speed is 18.75Mbps.  However, organizations with many users sharing connections could have numbers much lower.  Test your connection to see where you stand.
